Charter Township of Independence | Clarkston, MI | Roadway Traffic Right-of-Way Construction Engineering |
The Charter Township of Independence and the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) in partnership with the Sashabaw Road Corridor Improvement Authority (CIA) Board and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) worked together to develop a strategy to ease congestion and improve safety in the half-mile segment of Sashabaw Road between Waldon Road and the I-75 interchange. The recurring operational issues affected three of the five ramps and the signalized intersection of Sashabaw and Waldon Roads.
Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. (HRC) worked with the partners to study the numerous traffic issues in the I-75/Sashabaw interchange area as well as numerous iterations of improvements for the problems. The close proximity of the Waldon Road intersection provided complications for many of the improvement options. Several projects were proposed to remedy specific safety and operational issues at the intersection and interchange and a preferred alternative selected.
